Born in 1960 in Osaka. Completed master course at Kyoto City University of Fine Arts. Since the 1980s, Matsui has created a number of art works using various media including drawing, photography, video and so on. Above all, she has earnestly worked on installation works based on the original idea “weaving a story”. Her installation works has a unique world view consisted of sculptures and objects made of a variety of materials with different textures, such as wood, plaster, cloths. In recent years, Matsui has shifted the stage of her own story from an installation space to a canvas and presented painting works have its own story using oil and watercolor.
