Born in Tokyo in 1956. Received a bachelor’s degree and  a master’s degree from Chelsea School of Art. Shiraishi lived in Vancouver, Canada in 1974-76, and from 1982 to the present, she is based in London. In 1980s in London, where figurative painting was the mainstream, Shiraishi initially created paintings with reminiscent of Russian Constructivism. However, the organization on canvas gradually changed to more simple layout arranged vertically and horizontally and she ended up to establish an original minimal style centered on “color”.  On Shiraishi’s painting works, color functions not only as visual elements, but also as the temperatures and languages of her works. Besides,  her style centered on color is demonstrated in other types of art works such as three-dimensional works, installation works and public arts. In recent years, she has expanded her field of activities into music, architectural projects, art curation and so on.
